Vaginal dysbiosis

Origines

Vaginal dysbiosis or bacterial vaginosis, the most common vaginal infection with over 90 million cases worldwide every year, impacts many women at every level (intimate life, professional life, etc.).
Many factors can cause an imbalance in the Lactobacillus content of the vagina, known as vaginal dysbiosis:

- medications (antibiotics)

- hormonal changes (menopause,

   pregnancy)

- lifestyle factors (smoking, hygiene products)

   products)

This vaginal dysbiosis can favour the development of bacterial vaginosis (BV), when Lactobacillus is subsequently replaced by Gardnerella vaginalis.

Benefits

Probiotics are living micro-organisms, often referred to as "beneficial bacteria", which are thought to offer several health benefits when consumed in adequate quantities. Here are some of the benefits associated with probiotic consumption:

  • Digestive health: Probiotics help balance intestinal flora, which can prevent or relieve disorders such as diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis.

  • Immunity: They can boost the immune system by inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria and stimulating antibody production.

  • Mental health: Studies suggest a link between gut health and mental health, often referred to as the gut-brain axis. Probiotics may play a role in reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.

  • Allergies and eczema: Certain probiotic strains can help reduce the severity of eczema symptoms in children and allergies in some individuals.

  • Cardiovascular health: Probiotics can help reduce LDL ("bad") cholesterol and blood pressure, risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

It's important to note that the benefits of probiotics can vary depending on the specific strains and doses used. It's always advisable to consult a healthcare professional before starting a probiotic treatment to make sure it's right for you and your health.

Mechanism

The use of probiotics in urinary tract disorders.

In recent years, the use of probiotics in gynecological clinical practice has grown in importance, both for therapy and prevention.

From 127 presumptive lactobacillus isolates of vaginal origin, a careful selection of candidate strains meeting specific criteria was carried out. This led to the identification of four Lactobacillus strains of particular importance for women's urogenital health.

These strains play a crucial role in preventing infections caused mainly by E. coli, which can contaminate the female genital tract.

These infections are often due to the anatomical configuration of women, which facilitates the transfer of germs of intestinal origin to the vaginal area. Rigorous hygiene of the genital and peri-genital tracts is therefore essential to reduce the risk of colonization by pathogenic germs.

The lactobacillus strains used in Intimeo are the only ones known to be effective in preventing urinary tract infections when administered orally as probiotics.

Side effects

Intimeo, made from Lactobacillus (natural elements), poses no particular problems if taken correctly and in the recommended dosage. It can even be used during pregnancy.

But even when the product's tolerance is considered excellent, it is advisable to seek the advice of a health professional, especially if the condition is recurrent or arises in particular situations.

Conclusion

A new approach to the prevention and treatment of UTI can be considered significant with Intimeo.

Of course, this does not rule out certain possible combinations with other preparations.

In addition, and this cannot be stressed enough, in this type of condition, personal hygiene and other criteria associated with sexual activity are the first measures to be adopted.

And in this case, your health care professional, starting with your gynecologist or urologist, is best placed to suggest the appropriate measures to put into practice.

Feminine hygiene

Preventing urinary tract infections

1. Hydration

  • Drinking enough water is essential to help dilute urine and ensure that you urinate frequently. This helps flush bacteria out of the urethra before it can cause an infection.

2. Personal hygiene

  • Personal hygiene: It is important to wash from front to back after using the toilet. This prevents the transfer of bacteria from the anus to the urethra and bladder.

  • Shower rather than bath: Showers are generally preferable to baths because they avoid prolonged immersion in water that could be contaminated with bacteria.

3. Empty the bladder regularly

  • Urinating frequently and not holding urine can help prevent infections by expelling bacteria before they can infect the bladder.

4. Dress appropriately

  • Wearing cotton underwear and non-restrictive clothing can help keep the area dry and reduce conditions for bacterial growth. Avoid clothing that is too tight, which can irritate the urethra.

5. Sexual hygiene

  • Urinate before and after sex to help flush out potential bacteria that may have been introduced during sexual activity.

  • Using good lubrication and avoiding irritating products can also reduce the risk of micro-trauma and infections.

6. Changing sanitary products

  • For women, it is advisable to regularly change tampons or sanitary napkins during periods to avoid the proliferation of bacteria.

These hygiene practices, combined with a balanced diet and the use of supplements like D-mannose when appropriate, can greatly help prevent UTIs. However, if you experience UTI symptoms, it is important to consult a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and treatment.
